News: A look ahead at air traffic 12 – 18 October 2020

We expect an average of 650 flights per day at Schiphol in the coming week. That is less flights compared to last month. As a result, we only expect to use a second runway during peak times in the morning and evening. Works projects will still be carried out on the taxiways and entry/exit ways of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway and therefore the Buitenveldertbaan Runway will be used more frequently. The Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway can also for landings when the Buitenveldertbaan Runway cannot be used, for example due to the weather. Download the full factsheet at bezoekbas.nl (Dutch only).

Fewer flights

Whereas at first the average number of flights per day increased slightly, we expect a decrease in the coming weeks. It goes without saying that travel restrictions as a measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus play a part in this. During the coming autumn holiday period, the number of flights per day is expected to be between 600 and 635.

Peak times

In the week of 12-18 October we expect peak moments at the following times:

Take-off:

  • between 09:20 and 11:00 in the morning;
  • between 20:20 and 21:20 in the evening.

Landing:

  • between 07:20 and 08:40 in the morning;
  • between 18:40 and 20:00 in the evening.

A look back at 28 September - 4 October

In the first week of October there was an average of 684 flights per day at Schiphol. Most of the air traffic landed on or departed from Polderbaan and Kaagbaan runways. The Aalsmeerbaan Runway was mainly used as a second runway for landing and take-off. The works on taxiways and entry/exit ways to the south of the Zwanenburg Runway started and therefore the Buitenveldertbaan Runway was used as a second runway. Due to the strong south-southwest wind the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway has been used as second runway for landing five times.
