Health, Safety & Environment in construction and maintenance processesSafe construction work

As soon as you start working at Schiphol, you must know what to expect, especially when it comes to safety. The safety risks of construction and maintenance works at Schiphol depend on the particular works and on the simultaneous presence of various parties. A number of specific locations at our airport entail additional risks. And extra attention is required due to the fact that construction and maintenance works are performed while our operations continue 24/7.

To be able to perform construction and maintenance works safely, we have made agreements with the contractors about the working methods in construction and maintenance processes. This allows us to jointly ensure that the processes are safe – from design, to construction, to commissioning. These agreements are partly based on the Working Conditions Decree - Construction Process, which sets out obligations for the client (Schiphol) and the contractors.

Safety alerts

The goal of a Safety Alert is to promptly make people aware of an incident that had or could have had significant consequences, and to learn from it for future activities. Safety Alerts are effective because they are short and powerful statements about what has happened that are widely distributed among stakeholders. In the longer term, and after thorough analysis, suggestions for improvements will be made.
