European roadmap for CO2-neutral aviation
The European Roadmap Destination 2050 describes how we are working towards a CO2-netural aviation sector in 2050. Schiphol Group was involved in the creation of this plan and we are pleased with it. Destination 2050 is in line with our ambition to make aviation more sustainable.
Specific European-wide measures
Destination 2050 is a plan formulated by European aviation sector organisations such as ACI Europe, A4E and ASD. The plan paves the way towards a CO2-neutral European aviation sector (net zero carbon). The measures to lower CO2 emissions include fleet renewal, using sustainable aviation fuels and increasing airspace efficiency.
The importance of European agreements
Schiphol wholeheartedly collaborated on Destination 2050. One of the main elements in our own Sustainability Roadmap is sustainable aviation. By 2030, Schiphol wants to have brought aviation’s CO2 emissions back down to 2005 levels. In 2050, the aviation sector will be carbon-neutral. These goals can only be achieved by working together. That’s why these European agreements are so important.
The Netherlands leads the way with Smart and Sustainable plan
The European Destination 2050 programme can be compared to the Dutch Smart and Sustainable action plan. Twenty leading transport organisations and research institutions, including Schiphol Group, worked together to set up the Smart and Sustainable plan. This plan contains seven themes that will make a significant contribution to making the Dutch aviation sector more sustainable.
