AKO’s unmanned ‘Grab, Scan and Fly’ shop located on the G-Pier was named Magazine Retailer of the Year during the Mercurs Awards 2019 ceremony. The jury stated that “Schiphol’s AKO is the world’s first retailer to meet the need for convenience and speed when buying a magazine through an unmanned store. It’s an innovative and cost-effective concept that contributes to new opportunities within the shrinking magazine market," said the jury.
The store opened on the G-Pier in February 2019. It is a 10 m2 space, where a self-scan counter is used for the purchase of magazines
