Ultrafine Particles Action Plan
Schiphol has asked the scientific agency TNO to measure ultrafine particles at both Schiphol and Lelystad Airport. The measurements will be scheduled once the corona virus disruptions have ended. We know very little about the health effects of ultrafine particles. RIVM is therefore now conducting wide-scale research into the effects among local residents, which will be completed in 2021. Schiphol has drawn up its own Ultrafine Dust Action Plan in anticipation of this research.
Research at the airport allows us to increase the knowledge about ultrafine particles from aviation. We are also taking more measures to improve air quality and further reduce ultrafine particles emissions in and around the airport. Many measures also limit CO₂ and NOₓ emissions and contribute to our broader sustainability goals.
