News: Departure Hall 1 rising to great heights

On 15 October 2018, we started building the mezzanine for Departure Hall 1. This will result in the creation of an additional floor, in the format of a football pitch, like those in the other departure halls. From 2020, travellers will proceed here to Security whenever they go on holiday to a Schengen country.

We have been making the space available for the construction of the mezzanine floor since the start of this year. Now, though, we are starting on the actual construction of the mezzanine floor itself. We have initiated some preliminary work for the steel structure of the floor. The frames of the screens next to the check-in desks have been shortened, for example.

Hoisting the steel structure

In week 47, we will actually hoist up the steel structure. We will do so while thousands of travellers continue to pass through the hall, day in, day out. The major part of the work will therefore be carried out mostly at night. We are also in the process of carrying out demolition work and installing new stairs and lifts. The hoardings inside the departure hall show exactly what we are doing, and where.

Expansion of Departure Lounge 1

As well as the Departure Hall, Departure Lounge 1 is being expanded too. Among the new features there will be more bars, restaurants, and retail outlets, so travellers will be even more relaxed and cheerful as they board their aircraft.
