The first virtual travel fair in Belgian history took place 24–28 October: the Virtual Travel & Leisure Fair. This gave Belgium a European first.
In recent years, the internet and social media have had a huge impact on the travel sector. As a result, it was only a question of time before the first virtual trade fair was launched. During the Virtual Travel & Leisure Fair, numerous players from the travel sector presented their ranges for the coming summer season… in a completely virtual manner.
During the first two days of the event, the 'standholders' (which included Amsterdam Airport Schiphol) focused entirely on professionals from the travel sector. In the days which followed, consumers could also pay a virtual visit to the fair.
We felt that taking part was an interesting experiment. Of course, nothing beats genuine personal contact. On the other hand, a virtual fair allows you to make contact with industry partners in an innovative and accessible way, with no physical limitations such as stand capacity or travel time. We are already looking forward to the next one.
