Welcome back to Schiphol: Can I wave goodbye or welcome someone inside?

Yes, you can pick someone up or drop them off at Schiphol, but you can't enter the terminal, so you have to stay outside. We ask you to say goodbye outside, or to greet each other in the car park. Otherwise there is not enough space in the departure halls for travellers to keep a distance of 1.5 metres. Thank you for taking this into account.

Why are the departure halls only for travellers?

In order to be able to keep a distance of 1.5 meters at Schiphol, we need every inch. This means that every person who doesn't fly, but does enter, takes up extra space. And that makes it more difficult for travellers to keep their distance. That's why we ask everyone who doesn't have to go in, to stay outside.

Where can I wave someone off or pick them up?

You can still take your friends or family out on the Kiss & Ride in front of the departure halls, but make sure you've already had your real goodbye, because you can only stay here for a very short time. For arrivals, the easiest way is to wait outside in the parking lot P1, by your car. It is a bit less cosy, but that way we make sure that everyone who is present in the departure and arrival halls really has to be there. You could make it a bit more cosy by, for example, driving together to a quieter place to catch up. With nice weather, the spotter areas around the landing area are nice places where you can - still a bit in the flying mood - sit down at a picnic table.

What if my loved one can't go in or out alone?

We do understand that there really is no other option if you are joining a travel group or assisting someone in need of help. Please ensure that you maintain 1.5-metres of distance from other travellers and wear your face mask.
