2009 saw the takeover of the American airline Northwest Airlines by Delta Air Lines. For Northwest Airlines, this takeover means that this airline will cease to exist and has been absorbed completely into Delta Air Lines.

As at 1 February the integration of both airlines has become a fact and the flight numbers and reservation numbers of Northwest Airlines have been transferred into the Delta reservation system.
