Electronic travel authorisation
Dutch passengers are required to obtain an electronic travel authorisation before travelling to the United States. This requirement was introduced by the US government in August 2008 and is part of its Visa Waiver Program.
How it works
You can apply for the mandatory travel authorisation on the website of the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). Make sure to submit your application as long as possible in advance, and no later than 72 hours before your departure. This is because, in order for you to enter the United States, you must have the mandatory travel authorisation before you depart. The authorisation, once issued, is valid for two years.
