Garuda Indonesia launches first flight from Jakarta to Amsterdam

On June 2nd Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was the first airport in Europe to welcome Garuda Indonesia again. After almost six years of absence, the national airline of Indonesia flies daily between Jakarta and Amsterdam, with a stop in Dubai. The flights are operated with an A330-200.

An escort of Airside Operations guided the first flight to gate G03 where the aircraft was welcomed with a water salute from the Schiphol Fire Department. Amid great public interest of Asian and Dutch press a delegation consisting of the CEO of Garuda, Mr. Emirsyah Satar and the ministers of Transportation and Stated Owned Enterprises of Indonesia were warmly welcomed at the gate by the Ambassador of Indonesia, Mr. Habibi, the Dutch Minister of Transportation, Minister Eurlings and CEO of Schiphol Group Jos Nijhuis. Before the departure of the flight to Jakarta the ribbon cutting ceremony was preformed by the CEO of Garuda, the ministers of Transportation and Jos Nijhuis. All passengers received a tulip from hostesses dressed in traditional Dutch costumes. During a formal dinner Mr. Pieter Verboom (CFO of Schiphol Group) offered a Delft blue plate with an inscription of the memory of this first flight to the Garuda’s CEO, Mr. Satar.
