Jos Nijhuis keynote speaker at ACN New Year’s party
Mr Jos Nijhuis, President and CEO of Schiphol Group, was this year’s keynote speaker at ACN’s New Year’s Party on Tuesday 12 January. He shared Schiphol Group’s views on aviation and more specifically air cargo developments. Schiphol is optimistic about the future and expects to see cargo volume grow by 1% in 2010 as compared to 2009.
The impact of the crisis was of course the central theme in Mr Nijhuis his speech concerning the air cargo outlook for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Although the crisis hit each and everyone us hard, Schiphol is optimistic about the future and is planning to stay one step ahead of the market. In 2009, cargo volume reached the level of 1,3 million tonnes, a -17,9% decrease compared to 2008.
To sum up some of the innovative cargo projects for 2010, Mr Nijhuis mentioned the contribution of Schiphol SmartGate Cargo to Schiphol’s international competitive position, Schiphol’s ambition to become Europe’s number 1 e-freight hub and Schiphol’s collective promotional efforts at the Air Cargo Forum 2010 and other air cargo trade shows.
