Amsterdam Airport Schiphol plays lead role in CNN series
In weeks 21 and 22, CNN crews were filming on location at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for the new TV series The Gateway. Filming for the part of the show dealing with cargo was slated for Friday 27 May.
The Gateway takes a look behind the scenes at the world’s largest transport hubs, where ingenious logistics solutions ensure people and goods arrive at their final destinations every day.
From Tuesday 14 June, CNN’s new programme The Gateway will be visiting the world’s busiest transport hubs, responsible for millions of transfers every day. Ever wondered how long it takes for a rose from Kenya to arrive at your local florist? Watch The Gateway to find out.
Mike McCarthy, VP Coverage / Feature Programs CNN: ‘Our audience is extremely mobile, travels a lot internationally and buys products from every corner of the world. Many of these goods make extraordinary journeys before reaching their final destinations. The Gateway shows how these shipments come about, the infrastructure that is used and the ingenious logistics that underpin it.’
Each Tuesday, Becky Anderson will present The Gateway as part of her programme Connect the World. Each month, a compilation of The Gateway will be broadcast in which all four of that month’s segments will be shown consecutively. The Gateway starts with a visit to the harbour of Hamburg in Germany, which is Europe’s second largest container harbour.
Some of the locations that will be featured later in the year include Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the Netherlands; Incheon Airport, South Korea; Vladivostok, Russia; Zurich Railway Station, Switzerland; Istanbul, Turkey; and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The first episode of The Gateway can be seen on Tuesday 14 June in the programme Connect the World at 22.00 hours. The second, third and fourth segments will be shown consecutively in Thursday 16 June, Tuesday 21 June and Tuesday 28 June (at 22.00 hours, as part of Connect the World).
The first compilation of The Gateway (in which all four segments will be shown consecutively) lasts 15 minutes and can be seen on:
Thursday 14 July at 9.30 hours and 17.30 hours
Saturday 16 July at 07.30 hours, 11.30 hours and 19.30 hours
