Biggest stunt yet on Schiphol
Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton raced against Vodafone’s Mobile Internet Feed via Facebook with his McLlaren Mercedes F1 car. But who won?
At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Hamilton had to face the virtual race car that was supposed to upload 28.800 profile pictures on to Facebook. The McLaren Formula 1 driver won two of the three races held. Though the Vodafone network had the fastest record at the end of 96 seconds.
A race like this has never been done before, anywhere. Schiphol Media is very proud that together with Vodafone they’ve created this unique stunt. A stunt that was reported by a lot of press, even from abroad. Several news programs on Dutch television showed the images, the stunt was reported on radio, in many newspapers and on the Internet it was a hot topic.
“We have organised this show to demonstrate the country how fast our data network really is,” said Vodafone Netherlands CEO Jens Schulte-Bockum.
“And I think we have succeeded in that. But Lewis Hamilton is a formidable race driver indeed. He is not one to be beaten easily. It has been a privilege to stage this demonstration but an honour to lose against Lewis. We will continue our efforts to improve our network, its capacity, speed and performance. We’ll be back!”
